EDSG Wins Environmental Business
Journal 2006 Business Achievement Award
Foothill Ranch, CA, January 17, 2007 – Environmental
Data Solutions Group, LLC (EDSG) was honored by the Environmental
Business Journal (EBJ) for a 2006 Business
Achievement Award in the Technology Merit – Remediation
category. The award recognizes the success of EDSG’s
integrated Remediation Optimization System (iROS) in dramatically
accelerating cleanup of a site in Southern California with
approximately 4 million gallons of free product covering
more than 20 acres. Initially, vacuum-enhanced free product
recovery (VEFPR) was implemented as the remedial action,
and the VEFPR system was expected to operate for 10 to
15 years, using four O&M technicians. EDSG integrated
iROS into the VEFPR system. Preliminary results from monitoring
wells show that free product in the formation is decreasing,
and EDSG expects the site to be cleaned in 6 to 9 years
using only 1 to 2 field technicians, thus reducing cleanup
time and resources by half.
EDSG will receive
the award at the 2006 EBJ Business Achievement
Awards banquet on February 28, 2007, in conjunction with
EBJ’s Fifth Annual Environmental Industry Summit
in San Diego. The award will also be included in the Environmental
Business Journal’s annual Executive Review issue
in January 2007. A summary of the award-winning project
can be viewed at http://www.ebiusa.com/awards2006/#techrem.
“We
are so pleased to receive this award,” says
Bill Musser, P.E., a Partner with EDSG and inventor of
iROS. “We were always aware of the leap in
technology that iROS represents for remediation. But
I am equally thrilled to see that a key publication like
the Environmental Business Journal recognized the business
value of iROS for minimizing cost and schedule.”
About
iROS: iROS integrates three applications of
technology to accelerate NAPL (light or dense) recovery.
The technologies, developed by EDSG, include a Continuous
Fluid Level Monitoring System (CFLMS), integrated Wireless
Field Tools (WFT) and a Project Data Management Information
System (PDMIS). CFLMS allows for remote control and operation
of the well pump based on real-time measurement of NAPL
level in the well to maximize free product recovery.
Wireless Field Tools (WFT) are used to enter field-collected
data directly into the PDMIS, thus eliminating the need
for multiple entries of the same data, and allowing for
real-time evaluation of the field-collected data by offsite
project engineers and scientists. PDMIS is a data warehouse
and query system that allows for storage and visualization
of all project data, customized to the needs of the user.
iROS, the integration of these three technologies, results
in expedited cleanup at reduced costs. For more information,
